"...it is the experience of loving and being loved that most closely predicts how we react to the hardships of life; human attachments are the ultimate source of resilience."

― Jonah Lehrer, A Book About Love

What We Can Offer You

Compassionate Connections provides customized services to meet your specific needs, or the needs of your family. These services include individual, couples, marital and family therapy, as well as groups and educational trainings. We provide services to children, adolescents, and adults.  We also specialize in mental health social work, addictions counselling, trauma, grief and loss and emotion focused family therapy.

Please Note: Emergency psychological concerns should be addressed by your local emergency department or by calling 911.

Individual Therapy

Is a collaborative process between the therapist and the person in therapy. The main therapeutic goal of the therapist is to inspire change, assist in strengthening skills and improving quality of life. Therapy can help people overcome obstacles to their well-being. It can also increase positive feelings, such as compassion and self-esteem.

Marital & Family Therapy

Designed to identify patterns that contribute to problematic family relationships. The focus is around strengthening attachment and connections, as well as teaching skills such as emotion coaching and emotion validation. Family therapy can involve discussions and problem-solving sessions with the family. Ideally through open communication, relationships are strengthened within the family.

Workshops & Groups

Compassionate Connections is developing educational workshops for parents and caregivers, as well as for educators and other professionals who work with children, adolescents, and families. These groups and educational workshops will be focused around supporting individuals and families using practical and effective strategies that can be easily implemented into daily routines.

We acknowledge that we are in Mi’kma’ki , the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) People first signed with the British Crown in 1725. The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources but in fact recognized Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.
